Professor of Teaching and Curriculum Martha Mock, the director of the Center for Disability and Education at the Warner School of Education and Human Development, is the recipient of the 2024 Debra Hart Policy & Practice Leadership Award for her outstanding work to further inclusive higher education opportunities. She was recognized at the 2024 State of the Art Conference (SOTA) at the end of October.

Under Mock’s leadership, the Center for Disability and Education has played a pivotal role in developing and implementing a national accreditation process for inclusive postsecondary education programs. The National Coordinating Center (NCC) at Think College in partnership with the Center, recently initiated the establishment of a national accreditation agency for inclusive higher education, known as the Inclusive Higher Education Accreditation Council (IHEAC). Mock chairs the Accreditation Workgroup for the NCC at Think College, which played a crucial role in the development and launch of the accrediting processes. She also leads the IHEAC

The award is named in memory of Debra Hart, a visionary leader in the field of disability, special education, and higher education for more than 30 years, whose commitment to seeking funding support for policy, practice, and research advancements contributed significantly to the progress made in inclusive higher education.
