Program Overview

In today’s increasingly challenging environment, educational and nonprofit institutions need capable, visionary leaders at various levels of the organization. As an organizational leader, you’ll be able to impact not only the students or clients you currently serve, but your entire organization as well.

This master’s program will prepare you to be an effective administrator and agent of change within a variety of organizations – including, but not limited to, private schools, educational institutions in the United States and abroad, and nonprofit organizations – while giving you maximum flexibility to pursue your own interests and career goals.

Key Program Features

  • Highly Customizable: Of the 30 required credits, only six are specified; 18 credits of educational leadership electives plus 12 credits of other electives can be tailored to meet specific interests and career goals.
  • Flexible: Program can be completed in two years of part-time study while holding a job, or three semesters of full-time study; can start any semester.
  • Develop Valuable Leadership Skills: Can choose from courses that teach how to be effective in decision making, program evaluation, innovation, leading change, managing resources, securing funding, and other skills required of today’s leaders.
  • Online Options: Several courses are available fully online or hybrid-online.
  • Opportunities for Additional Specializations: With only a few additional credits, you can add an Advanced Certificate in Program Evaluation, Online Teaching or Digitally-Rich Teaching in K-12 Schools.
  • Optional Internship: No required internship; if desired, a supervised field experience can be conducted in one’s organization (or another context) and count for up to six credits.

Prerequisites

  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in an educational or nonprofit organization is highly preferred, but not required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required because of the program's online components. International students should consider a MS in Education Policy or MS in Higher Education.

Program Options

MS in Educational Administration

This highly customizable 30-credit program includes 18 credits of educational leadership courses of your choice (which may include a master thesis in educational leadership), plus 12 credits of electives. Coursework for the master's degree in educational administration. 

Combined Option

This combined program will allow you to pursue the master’s program described above concurrently with at least one advanced certificate (see list below) – thus leading to multiple credentials for only a few additional credits. Specializations include:

  • Advanced Certificate in Urban Teaching and Leadership
  • Advanced Certificate in Program Evaluation
  • Advanced Certificate in Digitally-Rich Teaching in K-12 Schools
  • Advanced Certificate in Online Teaching
  • Advanced Certificate in Teacher Leadership

You May also want A Certificate of Advanced Study

Requires a minimum of 36 credits (some transferable from previous graduate programs).
